UPDATE: The first few listings for railway-themed wedding venues are up on the site and ready for you to fall in love with – I want to get married in all of them so far! See what you think…
There are plenty of railway-themed venues in the UK, so you’re bound to find something that suits you.
A popular option is to hold the ceremony at a station then follow that with a glamorous ride on a heritage rail line or vintage steam train. The Bluebell Railway and the Dartmouth Steam Railway both have great packages for this but there are plenty of other station plus train ride venues too.
Or, you can hold your ceremony at a church or other venue, then transport your guests via train to a reception at a station venue, such as Carnforth Station, filming location for the ultimate rail romance, Brief Encounter.
If you want to tie the knot while on the move, there are railways, such as the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway, which offer an on-board ceremony. You can also hold your ceremony in a historic train carriage at the National Rail Museum in York, albeit a stationary one!
Luxury trains are probably the most romantic of all, and if you have money to burn, you can get married on board the Royal Scotsman, one of the most expensive and luxurious trains in the world. Fully licensed for civil ceremonies, its packages start at a mere £40,000 – but that does include the ceremony, all food, drink and on-board accommodation for you and 34 of your closest friends and family.
And of course, there’s no train more romantic than the Orient Express. While the iconic train doesn’t hold a wedding licence, you can have your marriage blessed on board after your formal ceremony. It’s also the perfect setting for a wow-factor marriage proposal – as I know from personal experience!
We’ll be listing all the venues in this section soon, with brief details about each one, so keep checking back!
