You’ve probably seen the picture – a long tunnel made of overarching, intertwined trees, carpeted with lush green foliage, looking for all the world like something out of a fairytale. For the first couple of years of this picture appearing intermittently on Facebook, Pinterest and the like, there was little information available. Nobody seemed to know where – or what – it was. Everybody agreed though that it was magical, beautiful, romantic.
Now though, the secret’s out. Turns out it’s actually part of a private railway in Ukraine that runs three times a day to a factory near the town of Klevan. Which kind of ruins the romance of it a little doesn’t it?
Until, that is, you find out that the locals call it the Tunnel of Love, and that it’s a favourite place for young lovers to walk in romantic seclusion. Not only that, but it’s said to hold a magical power too: couples who make a wish here and whose love is sincere, will find that their wish comes true. How’s that for a fairytale ending to a railway romance?
